Emlid Reach RS3

The Emlid Reach RS3 is Emlid's newest multi-band RTK receiver (2024), built for professional surveying, construction, and GIS. It tracks GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, and QZSS on L1/L2/L5 frequencies. The RS3 features a built-in IMU for tilt compensation, faster convergence than the RS2+, and an updated antenna design. Like the RS2+, it is configured through the Emlid Flow app via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Requirements

  • Emlid Reach RS3 powered on with a clear view of the sky

  • Emlid Flow app installed on your phone or tablet (iOS or Android)

  • Internet connection on your phone (cellular data or Wi-Fi)

  • RTKdata.com account with active RTK credentials (username starting with rtk)

  • Survey pole (recommended — required for tilt compensation calibration)

Step-by-step setup

1

Power on and connect via Emlid Flow

  1. Press and hold the power button on the RS3 for 3 seconds. The LED indicators will begin their startup sequence.

  2. Open the Emlid Flow app on your phone.

  3. Tap + Add new device or select your RS3 from the device list.

  4. Connect via Wi-Fi (the RS3 creates a hotspot named reach:XX:XX) or via Bluetooth if previously paired.

  5. Once connected, the device dashboard displays satellite count, solution status, and battery level.

RS3 vs RS2+ connection: The pairing process is identical to the RS2+. If you have used Emlid Flow with an RS2+, the interface will be familiar. The RS3 appears as a separate device in the device list.

2
  1. From the device dashboard in Emlid Flow, tap Correction input in the left-hand menu.

  2. Toggle correction input to Enabled (if not already on).

  3. Select NTRIP as the correction source.

  4. Tap Add new NTRIP profile (or edit an existing one).

3

Enter RTKdata.com NTRIP settings

Fill in the fields exactly as shown. Select the tab for your region:

  • Host (domain): rtk.rtkdata.com

  • Host (IP fallback): 13.56.117.10

  • Port: 2101

  • Username / Password: From RTK Credentials in the internal dashboard (not website login)

  • Mountpoint (ALL CAPS): AUTO (recommended) — or AUTO_WGS84, AUTO_ITRF2020, AUTO_ITRF2014

Also configure:

  • Send receiver position to the correction service: Enabled (sends NMEA GGA so RTKdata generates corrections for your exact location)

Tap Save to store the profile.

Connect and wait for Fix

  1. Tap Connect on the saved NTRIP profile.

  2. The correction input status will show Connected with incoming data bytes.

  3. Watch the solution status progress: Single > Float > Fix.

  4. The RS3 achieves Fix faster than the RS2+ thanks to its updated antenna and receiver engine. Expect Fix within 15-60 seconds under clear sky.

5

Handle the "Confirm Login" prompt

The RS3 shares the same Emlid cloud sync behavior as the RS2+. You may see a popup in Emlid Flow that says "Confirm login to resume data sync."

  1. Tap Confirm or Dismiss when the message appears.

  2. If it keeps reappearing, sign into your Emlid account in Emlid Flow under Settings > Account.

  3. This prompt does not affect your NTRIP connection. RTK corrections continue flowing while the popup is displayed.

  4. If the popup causes a momentary NTRIP disconnect, tap Reconnect in the Correction input menu.

6

Enable tilt compensation (RS3 exclusive)

  1. With an active RTK Fix, mount the RS3 on a survey pole.

  2. In Emlid Flow, navigate to Settings > Tilt compensation.

  3. Enable tilt compensation and follow the on-screen calibration: walk in a figure-8 pattern while tilting the pole in multiple directions.

  4. Once calibrated, the RS3 reports corrected positions even when the pole is tilted up to 30 degrees from vertical.

  5. The status bar will show a tilt compensation indicator confirming the IMU is active.

Vertical reference (heights) and coordinate systems

circle-info

Heights from RTKdata.com are ellipsoidal (WGS84), not orthometric (mean sea level). Use the Global coordinate system for your NTRIP connection. If your project requires a local datum or MSL heights, apply the transformation in post-processing or configure the local CS within Emlid Flow's project settings.

Troubleshooting

Fix

"Confirm login to resume data sync"

Emlid cloud sync prompt

Tap Confirm or dismiss. Sign into your Emlid account in Emlid Flow settings.

Correction input shows "Disconnected"

Wrong credentials or no internet

Verify username/password from your RTK dashboard (not website login). Check phone internet.

Stuck on Float, never reaches Fix

Poor sky visibility or antenna obstructed

Move to open sky. Ensure the RS3 is upright on a pole. Check that at least 12+ satellites are tracked.

Mountpoint error

Lowercase or misspelled mountpoint

Type AUTO in ALL CAPS. Do not browse the source table.

Tilt compensation not available

No RTK Fix or not calibrated

Achieve a stable RTK Fix first, then run the figure-8 calibration routine.

Connection drops frequently

Weak cellular signal

Move to better coverage. The RS3 will auto-reconnect when signal returns.

Tips and tricks

  • Use Wi-Fi for initial setup, Bluetooth for fieldwork. Wi-Fi provides a faster setup experience, but Bluetooth keeps your phone's internet connection active for streaming corrections.

  • Tilt compensation is a major advantage of the RS3 over the RS2+. It eliminates the need to perfectly level the pole for every measurement, saving significant time in the field.

  • Use Global CS for NTRIP, local datum in post-processing. RTKdata corrections are computed in a global reference frame. Apply your local coordinate system and geoid model when exporting or processing survey data.

  • Check "Age of corrections" in the Emlid Flow dashboard. If it exceeds 5 seconds, your internet connection may be unstable.

  • Enable raw data logging under the Logging tab for PPK post-processing. This is your safety net if NTRIP connectivity is intermittent during a survey.

  • Battery life with NTRIP and tilt compensation active is approximately 11-14 hours. Monitor battery status in Emlid Flow and carry a USB-C power bank for extended sessions.
