South Galaxy G7 / G6 RTK Setup: SurvX NTRIP

Connect the South Galaxy G7 and G6 to RTKdata NTRIP via SurvX. Receiver or phone internet, enable GGA (often off by default), and reach RTK Fixed.

The South Galaxy G7 and G6 are professional GNSS receivers by South Surveying & Mapping (a subsidiary of CHCNAV Group). The G7 is the flagship model featuring a built-in 4G modem, IMU tilt compensation, and multi-constellation tracking. The G6 is a mid-range option that may or may not include an internal modem depending on the variant. Both receivers are configured through SurvX field software running on an Android controller.

Requirements

  • South Galaxy G7 or G6 powered on with clear sky visibility

  • SurvX field software on an Android controller or tablet

  • Internet connection via the receiver's built-in 4G modem (SIM card — G7) or the controller's cellular/Wi-Fi connection

  • RTKdata.com account with active RTK credentials (username starting with rtk and password from your RTK dashboard)

  • Survey pole with South adapter

Step-by-step setup

Connect to the receiver

  1. Power on your Galaxy G7 or G6 and wait for satellite tracking to begin (LED indicators confirm satellite lock).

  2. Open SurvX on your Android controller.

  3. Go to Instrument > Connect (or Device > Connect) and select your South receiver from the Bluetooth device list.

  4. Pair and connect. SurvX will display the receiver model and current status.

Configure the rover work mode

  1. In SurvX, go to Instrument > Work Mode (or Device > Work Mode).

  2. Select Rover as the work mode.

  3. Under Datalink, select NTRIP.

  4. Choose the internet source:

    • Receiver Network (or Internal Network) — uses the receiver's built-in 4G modem with a SIM card inserted. Configure the APN for your carrier if prompted.

    • Phone Network (or External Network / Controller Network) — uses the Android controller's internet connection.

If using the receiver's internal modem, you may need to configure the APN for your mobile carrier. Common carriers are pre-stored; select yours or enter it manually.

Enter RTKdata.com NTRIP settings

Fill in the NTRIP connection fields. Select the tab for your region:

  • IP / Server Address: rtk.rtkdata.com

  • IP fallback: 13.56.117.10

  • Port: 2101

  • Username / Password: From RTK Credentials in the internal dashboard (not website login)

  • Mountpoint (ALL CAPS): AUTO

  • IP / Server Address: eu.rtkdata.com

  • IP fallback: 3.73.41.96

  • Port: 2101

  • Username / Password: From RTK Credentials in the internal dashboard (not website login)

  • Mountpoint (ALL CAPS): AUTO

Enable GGA position sending

  1. In the NTRIP settings, look for a Send GGA or Upload GGA toggle and make sure it is enabled.

  2. GGA is often OFF by default in SurvX — you must enable this manually.

Start the RTK survey

  1. Tap Apply or OK to save the rover configuration.

  2. SurvX will connect to the internet, then to the RTKdata NTRIP caster.

  3. Watch the solution status: Single > Float > Fixed.

  4. Once Fixed, you are ready to collect points, stake out, or run your survey workflow.

G7 tilt compensation

The Galaxy G7 includes IMU-based tilt compensation. Once an RTK Fix is achieved, tilt compensation initializes after a brief walk calibration. You can then measure with the pole tilted without leveling. SurvX displays the tilt angle and compensated position in real time.

Vertical reference (heights)

Heights from RTKdata.com are ellipsoidal, not orthometric (mean sea level). Configure a geoid model in SurvX under your project coordinate system settings if your project requires orthometric heights.

Troubleshooting

Verify the SIM card has data. Configure the correct APN for your carrier in the network settings.

Ensure your Android controller has mobile data or is connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot.

UI labels do not match this guide

Different SurvX version or regional build

SurvX labels vary between versions. Look for equivalent options — e.g., "External Network" may be labeled "Phone Network" or "Controller Network."

Empty mountpoint list

Source table timeout or wrong host

Do not browse — type AUTO manually in all caps. Verify the host address is correct.

No corrections received

GGA sending disabled (common default)

Enable Send GGA / Upload GGA in the NTRIP settings. This is often off by default in SurvX.

Stuck on Float

Poor sky conditions or far from base

Move to open sky. Check RTKdata base coverage at rtkdata.com.

Credentials rejected

Using website login instead of RTK credentials

Use the username (starting with rtk) and password from your RTK dashboard, not your website account.

Tips and tricks

  • G7's built-in 4G modem provides the most reliable connection — insert a SIM card and select Receiver Network.

  • Always enable GGA sending — SurvX often has this off by default, which is the most common reason for "connected but no corrections."

  • SurvX label inconsistencies are normal — the software was originally developed in Chinese. If a menu label does not match this guide exactly, look for the closest equivalent.

  • Save the work mode configuration so your crew can reuse it across projects without reconfiguring.

  • Check correction age in the SurvX status display. Values above 5 seconds indicate an unstable internet link.

  • Keep receiver firmware updated via South's firmware update tool to benefit from the latest RTK engine improvements and constellation support.

  • G6 users without a built-in modem should use the controller's internet connection (Phone Network / External Network).
