Topcon HiPer VR / HR
The Topcon HiPer VR and HiPer HR are professional survey-grade GNSS receivers by Topcon Positioning Systems. The HiPer VR is the flagship model with a built-in 4G modem, Universal Tracking technology, and a full GNSS antenna supporting all constellations. The HiPer HR is a lightweight, budget-friendly option that relies on a controller for internet connectivity (no internal modem). Both receivers are configured through MAGNET Field software running on an FC-6000, FC-5000, or FC-500 controller.
Requirements
Topcon HiPer VR or HiPer HR powered on with clear sky visibility
MAGNET Field v7.0+ on an FC-6000, FC-5000, or FC-500 controller
Internet connection via the HiPer VR's internal 4G modem (SIM card) or the controller's cellular/Wi-Fi connection (required for HiPer HR)

Step-by-step setup
Connect to the receiver
Power on your HiPer VR or HiPer HR and wait for satellite tracking to begin (LED indicators confirm satellite lock).
Open MAGNET Field on your FC-6000 or FC-5000 controller.
Go to Configure > Survey Styles and create a new style or edit an existing one.
Under Instrument, select your Topcon receiver model from the Bluetooth device list and pair if prompted.
Configure the RTK rover correction source
In your survey style, navigate to RTK > Rover.
Set Correction Source to Internet (NTRIP).
If using the HiPer VR's internal modem: select Receiver Internet and configure the APN for your mobile carrier if not already set.
If using the controller's internet (required for HiPer HR): select Controller Internet and ensure the controller has an active data connection via cellular or Wi-Fi hotspot.
The HiPer HR does not have an internal modem. You must use the controller's internet connection or tether the controller to a phone hotspot.
Enter RTKdata.com NTRIP settings
Fill in the NTRIP connection fields. Select the tab for your region:
Host / Caster Address:

Mountpoint (ALL CAPS):

Type AUTO manually in all capital letters. Do not browse the mountpoint table — MAGNET Field may time out or return an incomplete list with large casters.
Verify GGA position sending
In the NTRIP settings, verify that Send GGA is set to On or Automatic.
MAGNET Field typically enables GGA by default, but confirm this has not been changed.
RTKdata requires GGA position data to select the nearest base station. Without GGA, the connection will succeed but no corrections will be delivered.
Start the RTK survey
Save the survey style and return to the main screen.
Tap Survey and select the style you just configured.
MAGNET Field will connect to the internet, then to the RTKdata NTRIP caster.
Watch the solution status: Autonomous > Float > Fixed.
Once Fixed, you are ready to collect points, stake out, or run your survey workflow.
HiPer VR tilt compensation
The HiPer VR includes IMU-based tilt compensation. Once an RTK Fix is achieved, tilt compensation initializes after a brief walk calibration. You can then measure with the pole tilted without leveling. The FC controller displays a tilt icon and compensated position in real time.
Vertical reference (heights)
Heights from RTKdata.com are ellipsoidal, not orthometric (mean sea level). Configure a geoid model in MAGNET Field under Configure > Coordinate System > Vertical Adjustment if your project requires orthometric heights.
Troubleshooting
No internet connection (HiPer VR)
SIM card not active or APN misconfigured
Verify the SIM card has data. Configure the correct APN for your carrier in MAGNET Field or the receiver's network settings.
No internet connection (HiPer HR)
Controller has no data connection
The HiPer HR has no internal modem. Ensure the controller is connected to cellular data or a phone hotspot.
Empty mountpoint list
Source table timeout or wrong host
Do not browse — type AUTO manually in all caps. Verify the host address is correct.
No corrections received
GGA sending disabled
Verify Send GGA is enabled in the NTRIP settings. RTKdata requires GGA to select the nearest base.
Stuck on Float
Poor sky conditions or far from base
Move to open sky. Check RTKdata base coverage at rtkdata.com.
Credentials rejected
Using website login instead of RTK credentials
Use the username (starting with rtk) and password from your RTK dashboard, not your website account.
NTRIP v2.0 features not available
MAGNET Field version too old
Update to MAGNET Field v7.0 or later for full NTRIP v2.0 support.
Tips and tricks
HiPer VR's built-in 4G modem provides the most reliable connection — insert a SIM card and select Receiver Internet to avoid phone hotspot dependency.
HiPer HR users should pair the controller to a phone hotspot via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for internet access.
Save the survey style so your entire crew can load it on their controllers without re-entering settings each day.
Update to MAGNET Field v7.0+ for NTRIP v2.0 support, improved connection handling, and the latest constellation support.
Check correction age on the MAGNET Field status bar. Values above 5 seconds indicate an unstable internet link.
Keep receiver firmware updated via Topcon's Receiver Utility to benefit from the latest RTK engine improvements.
