SkylandX MetaCam Air 2 RTK Setup: NTRIP in MetaCam Go

Connect a SkylandX MetaCam Air 2 or Air to RTKdata NTRIP in MetaCam Go: mobile data, iPhone Wi-Fi IP, server, port 2101, AUTO mountpoint and the fix check.

This page covers the SkylandX MetaCam Air 2 RTK setup with RTKdata NTRIP corrections for two handheld SLAM scanners: the MetaCam Air 2 and the first-generation MetaCam Air. Both have the RTK module built in. You set them up in the MetaCam Go app on iOS or Android, and you georeference the scans in MetaCam Studio on Windows. The MetaCam Pro, MetaCam Lite and MetaCam Air 3 are listed in the model table with what applies to each.

For the MetaCam Go RTK account you turn on Enable RTK Account in the RTK tab of MetaCam Go and enter your RTKdata NTRIP credentials under Edit Account. The phone sits on the scanner's Wi-Fi, and MetaCam Go carries the corrections over the phone's mobile data.

These are the MetaCam Go NTRIP settings for RTKdata. Enter them in MetaCam Go under Start > gear icon (Settings) > RTK: turn on Enable RTK Account, then tap Edit Account. Select the tab for your region and use the server closest to your work area. All three servers share the same base station network; the difference is routing latency. See NTRIP Server Settings.

  • Host (domain): rtk.rtkdata.com in Server (preferred)

  • Host (IP fallback): 13.56.117.10 in Server, if the host name does not connect and Station Status stays Disconnect

  • Port: 2101 in Port

  • Username / Password: From RTK Credentials in your account dashboard in Account and Password, not your website login

Enter the host name in Server first, without http:// and without a port, because Port is a separate field. SkylandX's tutorials show IP addresses in Server. If Station Status stays Disconnect with the host name, especially on an iPhone with the manual Wi-Fi IP from step 1 below, enter the IP fallback of the same region in Server. MetaCam Go has no GGA switch: give the scanner a position outdoors before you confirm the account, as described in the steps below.

Port stays 2101. The red note Corresponds to WGS84 below Port is fixed app text, not a setting for RTKdata. Do not copy the port from SkylandX's tutorial videos: those ports belong to other correction services. With RTKdata you choose the reference frame with the mountpoint, see the datum box below.

Which MetaCam models can use RTKdata corrections?

For SkylandX MetaCam RTK with RTKdata, the MetaCam Air 2 and the first-generation MetaCam Air can take NTRIP corrections in MetaCam Go, because both have the RTK module built in and MetaCam Go accepts a manually entered NTRIP account; the MetaCam Pro takes an RTK module, but SkylandX shows the RTK steps only on the Air 2 and Air, the MetaCam Lite has no RTK, and the MetaCam Air 3 is not covered yet.

What do you need before connecting a MetaCam Air 2 or Air?

To connect a MetaCam Air 2 or Air to RTKdata you need the scanner, a current MetaCam Go app on a phone with mobile data, current scanner firmware, active RTKdata NTRIP credentials and RTKdata coverage at your site, plus MetaCam Studio with its USB dongle for georeferencing.

  • Scanner with RTK. MetaCam Air 2 or MetaCam Air. RTK is built in, there is nothing to mount.

  • MetaCam Go, the international app, in a current version: from the App Store on iOS (iOS 15.6 or later), or on Android as the APK from the official download link on the SkylandX software page.

  • Phone with a SIM and mobile data. The phone's Wi-Fi is taken by the scanner, so the corrections come over mobile data, see the next section. Abroad, turn on data roaming.

  • No VPN on the phone. MetaCam Go warns Please do not use VPN.

  • RTKdata account with active RTK credentials (username starts with rtk).

  • Coverage at your site. Check the RTKdata coverage map before the job.

  • MetaCam Studio on a PC with Windows 10 or later, 64 bit, with the USB dongle plugged in. SkylandX: "The software requires the dongle to remain connected".

App and firmware versions

Update the scanner firmware and MetaCam Go in the office before the first field job. After you connect the scanner, MetaCam Go checks whether the firmware is the latest version and offers the update. During the update the app shows Please do not close the APP or change network status during the upgrade process., so do not switch Wi-Fi or change the iPhone IP settings while it runs.

On the MetaCam Air 2, install at least metacam-runtime_v1.0.6. SkylandX's release notes for that version list the fix of "a critical issue where the status was delayed by approximately 3 minutes when switching from a fixed solution to no-solution / single-point solution". With older firmware the status could still show Fixed for minutes after the fix was lost.

The labels on this page come from the English MetaCam Go interface in SkylandX's tutorials.

Current app version when this page was written: MetaCam Go 2.3.2 on iOS and 2.3.2.1 on Android, MetaCam Studio 1.7.7 (September 2026).

Where does the MetaCam get internet for RTK corrections?

A MetaCam Air 2 or Air gets its RTKdata corrections through MetaCam Go on your phone: the phone joins the scanner's Wi-Fi MetaCam-..., which has no internet access, and MetaCam Go fetches the corrections over the phone's mobile data.

SkylandX's specifications list Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth as the connections of the Air 2 and the Pro, and no cellular modem, so the scanner does not go online by itself. Without mobile data MetaCam Go shows To use RTK, please enable mobile data.

An iPhone needs one extra setting so that it keeps using mobile data while it is on the scanner Wi-Fi: a manual IP address for that Wi-Fi, see step 1 below. On Android, SkylandX's tutorial shows no extra step. The CHCNAV RS10 / RS30 uses the same pattern with its tablet on the scanner Wi-Fi.

How does the MetaCam Air 2 RTK setup work in the MetaCam Go RTK tab?

To set up MetaCam Air 2 RTK with RTKdata, you connect the phone to the scanner Wi-Fi with mobile data on, tap Start in MetaCam Go, open the gear icon (Settings) at the top right, select the RTK tab, turn on Enable RTK Account and enter the RTKdata values under Edit Account: Server rtk.rtkdata.com (North America), eu.rtkdata.com (Europe) or aus.rtkdata.com (Australia), Port 2101, Mount Point AUTO, and the username and password from RTK Credentials in Account and Password, then you tap Confirm.

1

Connect the phone to the scanner Wi-Fi

  1. Outdoors, power on the scanner. The MetaCam Go manual says: "Press the battery handle button briefly and then press and hold it".

  2. In MetaCam Go, tap Device Connection or Connect Device via WIFI. The app opens the Wi-Fi settings of the phone.

  3. Select the scanner Wi-Fi. Its name starts with MetaCam-, on the Air 2 MetaCam-Air2-....

  4. Set up the network for your phone as shown in the tabs, then return to MetaCam Go.

The iPhone needs a manual IP address on the scanner Wi-Fi, as SkylandX shows in its iOS tutorial:

  1. In the iOS settings, open Wi-Fi and tap the (i) button next to the MetaCam-... network.

  2. Tap Configure IP (some iOS versions show Configure IPv4) and select Manual.

  3. IP Address: 10.42.0.100

  4. Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

  5. Router: leave empty.

  6. Tap Save.

SkylandX: "Then the iPhone can access cellular data while connecting to Wi-Fi". Keep mobile data on.

No extra step. Keep mobile data on while the phone is connected to the scanner Wi-Fi.

2

Open the RTK tab

  1. In MetaCam Go, tap Start.

  2. Tap the gear icon at the top right (Settings) and select the RTK tab.

  3. In the Display tab next to it, turn on Operation Reminder. SkylandX: "You can also use the Operation Reminder feature to get a quick alert if the RTK status changes".

3

Turn on Enable RTK Account

  1. Turn on Enable RTK Account. Edit Account and Test Network appear.

  2. Optional: tap Test Network and wait for OK. This only checks the phone's internet connection, not the RTKdata server, your credentials or the mountpoint.

  3. The RTK tab shows Station Status, Longitude, Latitude, Ellip. Height and Satellites. Outdoors, wait until Satellites shows satellites and the RTK status at the top shows Single before you continue.

4

Enter your RTKdata account in Edit Account

Tap Edit Account and fill in the fields:

  1. Account: your NTRIP username from RTK Credentials in your account dashboard. It starts with rtk and is not your website login.

  2. Password: the NTRIP password from RTK Credentials, not your website password.

  3. Server: the host name for your region, rtk.rtkdata.com (North America), eu.rtkdata.com (Europe) or aus.rtkdata.com (Australia), without http:// and without a port. Use the IP fallback from the region tabs at the top of this page if Station Status stays Disconnect with the host name.

  4. Port: 2101. Keep this port, whatever the red note Corresponds to WGS84 below the field says.

  5. Mount Point: type AUTO in capital letters, or pick it from the list in the next step. Check that the phone keyboard has not changed the capitals.

AUTO needs your scanner's position. The caster picks the nearest base station from the position your scanner reports (NMEA GGA). Without a position the login succeeds, but no corrections arrive. See NTRIP & GGA Essentials. MetaCam Go has no GGA switch. Give the scanner a position before you confirm the account: stay outdoors and wait until Satellites shows satellites and the status shows Single.

Type the username and password instead of pasting them, and check that no field starts or ends with a space. One set of credentials allows one connection at a time, so every scanner or other device that is connected at the same time needs its own data stream. See Account & Credentials.

5

Optional: pick AUTO from the mountpoint list

  1. Tap the icon next to Mount Point. The Mount Point dialog lists the mountpoints of the server.

  2. Tap Apply in the row of AUTO. The list can show more entries than AUTO, AUTO_ITRF2020, AUTO_ITRF2014 and AUTO_WGS84: pick AUTO unless your project needs one of the global frames.

The RTKdata sourcetable loads without a login (checked on 26 September 2026), so a visible mountpoint list proves neither your credentials nor a running correction stream.

6

Confirm the account

  1. Tap Confirm. MetaCam Go shows RTK Data Request in Progress!. If it shows Please enable mobile data! instead, turn on mobile data and tap Confirm again.

  2. Tap Exit to return.

Set RTK account successfully! only means that the scanner has taken over the values. It does not show that RTKdata has accepted your login.

7

Wait for Fixed, then create the project

  1. Stay outdoors under open sky. SkylandX recommends starting "in an open area with more than 30 satellites".

  2. Wait until the RTK status at the top shows Fixed. SkylandX: "Wait a few seconds for the RTK status to show Fixed". Tap the status and check Station Status: Connected and Differential Age.

  3. If the status stays at Single or Float for more than a few minutes under open sky, go to the checklist below.

  4. Only then create the project and start the scan, see the next section.

Reuse a saved account

MetaCam Go keeps the accounts you have used. Next time, tap the clock icon (history button), and under Historical Account tap Apply at the RTKdata account. Remove old entries with Delete. Before each scan, check that Enable RTK Account is on and the status reaches Fixed.

How do you know the MetaCam has a usable RTK fix?

A MetaCam Air 2 or Air has a usable RTK fix from RTKdata when the RTK status at the top of MetaCam Go shows Fixed and the RTK details show Station Status: Connected with a Differential Age value, which means correction data is arriving.

  • The RTK status at the top shows None, Single, DGPS, PPS, Float or Fixed. Only Fixed counts for the scan.

  • Tap the status to open the details: Station Status: Connected, HRMS, VRMS, PDOP and Differential Age.

  • SkylandX warns of a "false fixed". Check HRMS, VRMS and PDOP as well, and start in an open area with more than 30 satellites.

Scanning with RTK

  • Start the scan only at Fixed: tap Start, create and name the new project with the red button on the right, tap Confirm and keep the scanner still during initialization, as MetaCam Go prompts.

  • Start and end the scan outdoors under open sky.

  • With Operation Reminder on, MetaCam Go shows a pop-up when the RTK status changes during the scan.

  • After the scan, check Fixed Solution Ratio in the Job Report. A low ratio means that parts of the scan were recorded without a fix.

How do you georeference a MetaCam scan in MetaCam Studio?

You georeference a MetaCam Air 2 or Air scan recorded with RTKdata corrections in MetaCam Studio by ticking RTK under Optimizer when you create the task. If you need the output in another coordinate system, SkylandX uses RTK Registration with a Target System; with the AUTO mountpoint, choose a projected system of your regional datum and check the result at one known control point.

  1. Copy the scan to the PC. MetaCam Air 2: remove the TF card from the scanner and read it with a card reader. MetaCam Pro: SkylandX lists "USB 3.0 Type-C" for data export from its 1 TB built-in SSD.

  2. Open MetaCam Studio with the USB dongle plugged in and Import the data.

  3. Create a New Task and tick RTK under Optimizer. If RTK is missing, RTK was not active during the scan.

  4. Use MetaCam Studio RTK Registration only if you need another coordinate system for the output: click RTK Registration. In the Transfer Coordinate dialog, set Coordinate type to Known coordinate system and enter the projected system of your regional datum by EPSG code in Target System, for example 25832 (ETRS89 / UTM zone 32N) or 6346 (NAD83(2011) / UTM zone 17N). For a system without an EPSG code, use Custom Coordinate System. Close the dialog with Confirm.

  5. Run the task. The georeferenced point cloud is in the geo folder under Result. SkylandX: "Inside the geo folder you'll find the georeferenced point cloud data".

  6. Check the result at one known control point.

Use AUTO, choose a target system in the same regional datum, do not add a WGS84-to-national transformation, check one control point.

AUTO delivers the corrections in the regional datum for your position, for example NAD83(2011) in the USA, NAD83(CSRS)v7 in Canada, ETRS89 (realization ETRF2000) in Europe and GDA2020 in Australia. For regions without a listed regional datum, AUTO falls back to WGS84(G2139) at the mid-year epoch. AUTO_ITRF2020 and AUTO_ITRF2014 deliver ITRF at the current epoch, and AUTO_WGS84 delivers WGS84(G2139) at the mid-year epoch. The full list per country is in Coordinate Systems & Datums.

  • WGS84 labels. The red note Corresponds to WGS84 under Port does not change the frame: with AUTO the corrections arrive in your regional datum. Why scanner software often says WGS84 is explained in Georeference SLAM Point Clouds with RTK.

  • Source datum in MetaCam Studio. SkylandX does not document which source datum MetaCam Studio assumes for the RTK positions. Choose a Target System in the same regional datum, do not add a WGS84-to-national datum transformation on top, and check a control point. A consistent offset of 50 cm to 1 m against control is a datum mismatch, not an accuracy problem, see Why Your Coordinates May Be Offset.

  • Global mountpoints. Use AUTO_ITRF2020 or AUTO_WGS84 only when the deliverable must stay in a global frame. Reaching a national system from those mountpoints needs a real datum transformation in MetaCam Studio. Keep one mountpoint per project.

  • Heights. Heights are ellipsoidal, as the field Ellip. Height in the RTK tab shows. For heights above sea level, apply a geoid model: a difference of 10 to 50+ m against benchmarks is the geoid separation. See Understanding Heights.

  • Ground control points. SkylandX states that in batch mode "control point calibration is not yet supported", so process projects with control points one at a time. Keep the control points in the same frame and height reference as your Target System.

PPK and the MetaCam models

SkylandX lists PPK in the MetaCam Pro specification ("SOTA-SLAM (Support RTK, PPK, GCPs)"). The MetaCam Air 2 specification lists "SOTA-SLAM (Supports RTK, GCPs)" and does not name PPK, so on the Air 2 and Air plan on RTK during the scan or on ground control points. Where PPK is available, it needs base station observation data for the whole scan, usually from a base station you run yourself, and the RTKdata NTRIP stream does not replace those observations. Decide before the scan, see Is RTK or PPK better for a handheld SLAM scanner?.

Why does MetaCam Go connect but never reach Fixed?

MetaCam Go can accept the account and still get no RTKdata corrections when the phone has no mobile data, the credentials or the mountpoint are wrong, or the scanner has no position yet; check mobile data (and the manual IP on an iPhone), retype the RTK credentials, enter AUTO in capitals, wait outdoors for Single, and use the regional IP fallback in Server last, until Station Status shows Connected and the status reaches Fixed.

A status of Single with Station Status: Disconnect means that the connection to RTKdata is not up yet:

  1. Phone internet. Mobile data on, data roaming on abroad, VPN off. On an iPhone, check the manual IP for the scanner Wi-Fi from step 1.

  2. Account and Password. Retype both from RTK Credentials, without spaces and without automatic capitals. The username starts with rtk.

  3. Mount Point. Check that it reads AUTO exactly, in capital letters.

  4. Position. Outdoors, wait until Satellites shows satellites and the status shows Single. Then turn Enable RTK Account off and on and tap Confirm again.

  5. IP fallback. Enter the IP fallback of your region in Server (13.56.117.10 North America, 3.73.41.96 Europe, 54.206.56.130 Australia), keep Port 2101 and Mount Point AUTO, and tap Confirm.

  6. Second device. If another device uses the same credentials at the same time, disconnect it or add a data stream.

Frequently asked questions

Does the MetaCam Lite support RTK?

No. The MetaCam Lite has no RTK: its specification lists "SOTA-SLAM (support GCPs)" and no RTK section, and SkylandX notes in the MetaCam Go manual that "Some device models do not support enabling RTK." Georeference Lite scans with ground control points. The RTKdata setup on this page applies to the MetaCam Air 2 and the first-generation MetaCam Air.

Can I use a third-party NTRIP service like RTKdata in MetaCam Go?

Yes. MetaCam Go takes a manually entered NTRIP account, so the MetaCam Air 2 NTRIP corrections can come from RTKdata: turn on Enable RTK Account in the RTK tab and enter Account, Password, Server, Port and Mount Point under Edit Account. SkylandX's RTK Configuration Guide (Android) shows this step with the caption "Or enter your NTRIP account manually". RTKdata streams RTCM 3.2 with MSM messages, see Correction format.

Does MetaCam Go need mobile data on my phone for RTK?

Yes. The phone's Wi-Fi is connected to the scanner Wi-Fi MetaCam-..., which has no internet, so MetaCam Go fetches the RTKdata corrections over the phone's mobile data. Without it the app shows To use RTK, please enable mobile data. On an iPhone, set Configure IP to Manual for the MetaCam-... Wi-Fi with IP Address 10.42.0.100, Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 and Router empty, so that the iPhone keeps using mobile data.

Which port do I enter when MetaCam Go shows Corresponds to WGS84?

Enter 2101. The red note Corresponds to WGS84 below Port is fixed app text, not a setting for RTKdata. With RTKdata you choose the reference frame with the mountpoint: AUTO delivers your regional datum, and AUTO_WGS84 delivers WGS84(G2139) at the mid-year epoch.

Does this guide cover the MetaCam Pro and the MetaCam Air 3?

MetaCam Pro RTK is covered only as a model note, and the MetaCam Air 3 not yet. The Pro takes an RTK module (SkylandX lists "1,160 g (w/o RTK); 1,325 g (w/ RTK)"), which must be mounted before you connect. SkylandX shows the RTK steps on the Air 2 and Air, so check the labels on the Pro against this page. The Air 3, presented on 15 September 2026, is not covered: SkylandX states that "Product configurations, regional availability, and commercial details will be announced separately".

Quick reference
