MicroSurvey FieldGenius
MicroSurvey FieldGenius is a professional survey field software developed by MicroSurvey (a Hexagon company). Available for both Windows and Android, it supports a wide range of GNSS receivers including Trimble, Leica, Topcon, and generic NMEA devices. Its built-in NTRIP client makes it straightforward to connect to RTKdata.com and receive real-time RTK corrections for centimeter-level positioning in the field.

Step-by-step setup
Configure your instrument profile
Open FieldGenius and create or open a project.
Go to Survey > Instrument > Select Instrument.
Choose the correct manufacturer and model that matches your GNSS receiver hardware.
If your receiver is not listed, select Generic NMEA as the instrument type.
Set the communication port (COM port) to match the connection to your receiver — Bluetooth serial port, USB, or internal.
Tap Connect to verify that FieldGenius communicates with the receiver. You should see satellite tracking and a standalone position.
Instrument profile mismatch is the most common setup error. If you select the wrong manufacturer or model, FieldGenius may fail to communicate with the receiver or send incorrect commands. Always verify the exact model in your receiver's documentation.
Set up the internet connection
Go to Survey > Instrument > Internet Setup (or Configure Internet).
Select your internet connection method:
Internal modem — if your data collector has a built-in cellular modem.
Bluetooth DUN / Phone tether — for connecting via a smartphone hotspot.
Wi-Fi / Direct IP — if connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Verify that the device has an active internet connection before proceeding.
Enter RTKdata.com NTRIP settings
In the Internet Setup screen, select NTRIP as the correction source type.
Fill in the following connection fields:

Ensure Send GGA Position is enabled. RTKdata.com requires your approximate position (GGA) to compute Virtual Reference Station corrections.
Connect and begin surveying
Tap Connect to start the NTRIP correction stream.
Monitor the solution status in the FieldGenius status bar as it progresses: Autonomous > DGPS > Float > Fix.
Once the status shows RTK Fix, you have centimeter-level accuracy. Convergence typically takes 15–60 seconds under open sky.
Begin your survey — use Store Point, Stakeout, or Topo as needed.
FieldGenius displays the solution quality and number of satellites in the status bar. Verify Fix status before storing critical survey points.
Vertical reference
Heights from RTKdata.com are ellipsoidal, not orthometric (mean sea level). FieldGenius can apply a local geoid model to convert ellipsoidal heights to orthometric. Configure this under Project > Coordinate System > Geoid Model.
Troubleshooting
Receiver not responding
Wrong instrument profile or COM port
Re-check the manufacturer/model selection and verify the correct COM port under Instrument settings
"Connection failed" on NTRIP
Incorrect host, port, or no internet
Double-check the hostname, port 2101, and that your device has active internet. Try the IP fallback.
Stuck on Float indefinitely
GGA not being sent to caster
Confirm Send GGA Position is enabled. Without GGA, VRS corrections cannot be generated.
Mountpoint error
Lowercase or misspelled mountpoint
Enter AUTO in ALL CAPS. Do not use auto or Auto.
COM port busy or unavailable
Another app is using the serial port
Close other apps that may be accessing the receiver's Bluetooth or USB serial connection.
Poor accuracy even with Fix
Bad sky view or incorrect antenna height
Move to open sky, re-measure the antenna height, and ensure the pole is level.
Tips for best results
Match the instrument profile exactly to your receiver hardware. This is the single most important configuration step in FieldGenius.
Test the internet connection before configuring NTRIP. A failed hotspot or cellular connection is easier to diagnose separately.
Save your NTRIP profile within the project template so you do not need to re-enter credentials for each new project.
Use the satellite tracking screen to verify at least 10–12 satellites before expecting a reliable Fix.
For Windows tablets, ensure power management does not disable Bluetooth or Wi-Fi when the screen turns off.
